If you use voice recognition technology such as Dragon by Nuance which is one of the best, be sure and do your work outside of Medium. Do not do your work on Medium because if you accidentally leave your microphone open to go to the bathroom and other noise is going on, you will lose all of your work. For this reason it would be much better to work on a blank email page or Evernote so that this cannot happen. This morning I was working intently making changes and editing a poem that was already written and posted on Medium. I like the poem a lot and I was trying to make improvements on it to make it even better and I worked about six hours on it, all morning. I stopped to do other things for a minute and I forgot to tell my microphone to go to sleep. Don’t you just love automation ?Every sound heard , it tried to get instructions from that. My wife came down the hall and whispered very quietly to me that the Dragon seem to be doing strange things to my poem. The poem I been probably writing for at least 40 hours if you added it all up. Fortunately I always keep backup copies but today I decided to go directly to Medium to work with my poem as an edit. I figure it’s already there so I’ll improve it there. Well the Dragon decided to back me out of that poem and start a new poem based on the closing of doors and the banging of pots and pans. I hadn’t saved what I’ve been working on for the last six hours, I didn’t suspect automatic destruction of my work. Dragon thinking I wanted to write a new poem, switched over to a blank page for that purpose. When it switched pages I lost everything I have been working on all morning because I didn’t expect that I had to hit save just because I got up for a few minutes and stupidly left my Microphone on. I still have the original poem, before changes. I didn’t lose anything there, but I did lose the last six hours and the improvements that I thought were very good , I lost that too. I love the Dragon by Nuance and it is a very valuable tool if you’re writing articles.
It’s not free but mostly I just love it. However, it’s kind of difficult to use when you’re dictating poetry because the program offered by Medium and the Dragon program by Nuance work fairly well together but not perfectly. Your hot Mike must be turned off by turning the Dragon off completely when you walk away. Some of the problems created are seriously a pain and some things you say in confidence might accidentally go out.
