DANGEROUS HIGHWAY

I got up early one morning to drive the danger highway
trillions of minuscule droplets of water hung in the air
just breathing the thick air, lungs had little leeway
and cars driving so fast like they don’t even care

what caused the slowdown, was it someone ahead
perhaps if I floor it I’ll get there instead
why won’t these cars get out of my way
if I’m late again I’m going to have hell to pay

and here comes a mom and three pretty kids
Susie is crying because Bill took her toy
She’s got to get things done and not flip her lid.
It’s hard to feel peace when life gives no joy

a purple old car with popped trunk and ignition
trying to look cool and not drawing attention
thugs sitting low, a bit of a gangster lean
as they drive slowly by you looking so mad dog mean

And then it happened, a deadly loud chorus
the fog got so thick we couldn’t see before us
they put on the brakes but it was too late
one after another cars crashed to their fate

don’t run so fast when you’re trying to win
Will your best decision be your last sin
if the going is rough, your losing ground again
just talked to Jesus because he is your friend
